Female Fertility
| Based in Nottingham, the Acupuncture Fertility Centre offers complementary healthcare for couples undergoing fertility treatment. You may have been trying for a baby for at least 6 months, and IVF has been suggested as the next step, but you want to explore all the options first. We do not talk about treating infertility, rather we see boosting fertility as a multi-faceted problem that calls for a range of approaches. Many people use acupuncture to improve their general sense of wellbeing, or to help them relax. You will have a specific diagnosis, or simply 'unexplained infertility'. Whatever your circumstances, we will look carefully at your needs and offer a strategy to suit you. |
| When you attend the centre for the first time, you will be asked about your general health, lifestyle, energy levels and so on, as well as the details of your menstrual cycle - length, timing, blood loss etc. Your tongue and pulse will be examined in detail, and you may be asked to start a daily basal body temperature (BBT) chart. Acupuncture places emphasis on observing what goes on outside the body to discern what is going on inside. It has been suggested that it may improve fertility by modulating the sympathetic nervous system, affecting uterine and ovarian blood flow and by adjusting the balance between the hypothalamus, pituitary and ovaries. Treatment will be aimed at restoring and correcting imbalances identified during the consultation. To help this process along, you may be encouraged to participate in your treatment by, for example making dietary changes or performing exercises. Martin was a great source of help during our struggle with infertility. He is well informed and an excellent acupuncturist. We eventually got pregnant through IVF and I believe acupuncture played a big part in that. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Martin Dean. P. Blakey |
